Protest Erupts Over Allegations Against Vaccination Officer
The anger of ASHA workers and supervisors in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district spilled onto the streets on Monday, targeting the State Vaccination Program Officer, Bhkoria. A large contingent of ASHA workers, led by State President Lakshmi Kaurav, gathered at the district collectorate office to lodge a strong protest.
Grievances Regarding Fund Misappropriation and Misconduct
The workers' primary accusation is that the concerned officer not only made objectionable remarks towards them but also attempted to embezzle their hard-earned money. They highlighted that the government has allocated a substantial sum of ₹3354 crore 75 lakh for ASHA workers, yet the women working at the grassroots are not receiving its full benefit.
In a memorandum submitted to Collector Kirodi Lal Meena, the workers emphasized their crucial role in delivering various health department schemes to villages. Despite this, they are allegedly facing humiliating treatment.
Demands for Investigation and Action
The protesting ASHA workers accused the vaccination officer of misbehavior and attempting to irregularly seize funds related to their earnings. They have demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter and strict action against the guilty officer.
Warning of Escalated Protests
The ASHA workers have warned that if their serious allegations are not impartially investigated and appropriate action is not taken against the responsible officer, they will intensify their movement. They stated they will not back down until justice is served.
Administration's Response
The local administration has taken the issue seriously and indicated the commencement of an investigation process. The Collector assured the workers that their complaints would be investigated and action would be taken as per rules. The focus now shifts to how the government and administration will resolve these grievances and provide relief to the workers.
