'Warrior of Khaki Uniform' Book Launched on Vijay Raman's Police Service

Book Launch for Late IPS Officer Vijay Raman's Service

Bhopal | September 12, 2026 - A special ceremony was held today at Bhopal's prestigious Dushyant Kumar Memorial Manuscript Museum. Director General of Police Shri Kailash Makwana unveiled the book titled ‘Khaki Vardi Ka Yoddha’ (Warrior of Khaki Uniform), which chronicles the inspiring police service life of the late senior IPS officer, Shri Vijay Raman.

Organized by the Public Relations Society of India, Madhya Pradesh chapter, the event commemorated Shri Raman's life, experiences, and invaluable contributions. In his address, Shri Kailash Makwana lauded the late Shri Raman's personality, integrity, dedication to duty, straightforwardness, and leadership capabilities.

He stated that Shri Raman's life serves as a guide and inspiration for the coming generations of police officers. The conduct and work style of senior officers provide direction to future police personnel, and the late Shri Raman exemplified this.

Handling Challenging Responsibilities

The Director General of Police highlighted that the late Shri Vijay Raman discharged numerous challenging and significant responsibilities throughout his long and distinguished police career. These included operations against dacoity in the Chambal region, anti-Naxal operations in Bastar, service in Jammu and Kashmir, his role in the Special Protection Group (SPG) safeguarding four Prime Ministers, and his tenure in crucial positions like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Shri Makwana emphasized a key characteristic of Shri Raman's working style: he always took the initiative to face every challenge head-on. His decisions were always driven by duty, the institution, and the team's welfare, transcending personal interests. This dedication earned him deep respect and trust among his subordinates.

Learning from Experience

Referring to the book ‘Khaki Vardi Ka Yoddha’, Shri Makwana said it is more than just a record of a police officer's life; it is a unique compilation of various phases of police service, difficult circumstances, significant operations, and real-life experiences. He expressed hope that the book would serve as an important medium for current and future police officers to learn from these experiences.

Beyond police officers, the book is expected to be beneficial for journalists and general readers, offering a deep understanding of the practical and human aspects of police service. The Director General of Police stressed that the lives of officers like the late Shri Vijay Raman demonstrate that police leadership is not confined to rank or authority but lies in credibility, personal conduct, decision-making ability, and earning the trust of the team.

Museum Visit

Following the book launch ceremony, Director General of Police Shri Kailash Makwana also closely observed the Dushyant Kumar Memorial Manuscript Museum. He gathered detailed information about the rare literary and historical treasures, ancient manuscripts, and other collected materials preserved in the museum. Shri Makwana also learned about the museum's activities and its national significance.

Family Recollections and Legacy

On this occasion, the wife of the late Shri Vijay Raman, Mrs. Veena Raman, and other family members shared their memories of Shri Raman's personality, family life, and police service. Speakers recalled the late Shri Raman's long police career, his distinctive working style, excellent leadership, unwavering dedication, and humanitarian sensitivity. They noted that the experiences of such officers are not merely memories of the past but an invaluable legacy of the values and work culture of police service for future generations.

The book launch ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former Directors General of Police Shri Santosh Kumar Raut and Shri Surendra Singh, retired Director General Shri Pawan Jain, senior retired IPS officer and former minister Shri Rustam Singh, political analyst Shri Girija Shankar, senior public relations officer of Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Shri Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Ayurveda and Panchakarma expert Dr. Rashmi Jha, along with many senior retired police officials and distinguished citizens.
