Village Guardians Crucial for Rural Security
The Cliff News | Bareilly | October 13, 2026
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that Village Guardians play a role in the security of villages in Uttar Pradesh, similar to how CCTV cameras function in cities. He stressed that these guardians must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police promptly to establish effective crime control.
During a grand ceremony in Bareilly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honored approximately 5100 Village Guardians from various districts of the state. He highlighted the importance of Village Guardians, emphasizing that immediate reporting of any unusual or suspicious activity in villages to local police is essential.
The Chief Minister elaborated that if any individual's activities appear suspicious or if there is an apprehension of an untoward incident, the Village Guardian must immediately inform the Station House Officer or the concerned beat officer. Timely information allows the police to take swift and effective action, preventing any unfortunate incidents. Coordination and teamwork between the police and Village Guardians are crucial for this.
Police-Village Guardian Coordination Meetings
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath suggested that every Station House Officer and beat officer should hold meetings with Village Guardians at least once a week. The objective of these meetings would be to compile information received from villages and to take prompt steps to resolve local issues. Such regular meetings will not only bolster crime control but also enhance the security of women, girls, and vulnerable sections of society.
The Chief Minister also noted that prior to 2017, the role and facilities for Village Guardians did not receive adequate attention. The current state government has worked to strengthen this system and provide Village Guardians with the respect commensurate with their significant contributions. He also mentioned the previous increase in the honorarium for Village Guardians, stating that their contribution to village security is invaluable and should never be underestimated.
Positive Changes in Security System
Yogi Adityanath also shed light on the significant positive changes in the state's law and order since 2017. He specifically detailed the reforms made in the police system, the provision of better training and modern facilities for police personnel, and the steps taken to make the roles of Village Guardians and PRD jawans more effective.
The Chief Minister stated that improved law and order have strengthened the sense of security among the public, which has directly and positively impacted the state's image, trade, and investment. He added that the 'Double Engine' government, under the skilled leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has achieved significant success in changing the perception of Uttar Pradesh both nationally and internationally.
On the third day of the Shardiya Navratri, he observed that the atmosphere of festivals and joy in the state is proof of the increased confidence of citizens in their security. The Chief Minister instructed the concerned officials to further strengthen local security arrangements and expedite the process of recruitment for vacant positions in the police department.
Cabinet Ministers Suresh Khanna, Dharmpal Singh, Minister of State Dr. Arun Kumar, and other public representatives were also present on this occasion.
