Drone Attack on Moscow

Russian state news agency TASS reports that at least three people were killed near Moscow in what it calls “the largest attack in over a year.” Ukrainian drones, numbering over 500, targeted the Russian capital overnight.

The attack follows a series of intense Russian strikes on Kyiv earlier in the week, which resulted in at least 25 deaths and numerous injuries, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Casualties and Damage

Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, reported that a woman was killed in Khimki after a drone struck a private home. Another person was initially trapped under rubble.

In Mytishchi, two men were killed when drone debris landed on a house under construction. Sobyanin also confirmed that 12 people were injured in Moscow, including construction workers at an oil refinery.

Russian Defense Response

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 556 Ukrainian drones overnight. Sobyanin stated that air defenses shot down over 120 drones targeting Moscow and its environs.

Debris from downed drones caused a fire in a house in the village of Subbotino. Four people were injured in Istra when drones damaged several residential blocks, according to TASS.

Fragments also fell on the grounds of Sheremetyevo Airport, Russia's busiest, but no injuries or damage were reported.

Ukraine's Perspective

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched 287 drones overnight, injuring at least nine people in the Dnipropetrovsk region and Zaporizhzhia district.

They claim to have shot down all but eight of those drones across seven locations.
