Srinagar on High Alert Amidst Article 370 Anniversary and Independence Day Celebrations
Srinagar intensifies security measures across the city for the anniversary of Article 370's abrogation and Independence Day.

Unprecedented Security in Srinagar
Srinagar is under an unprecedented security lockdown, especially around the historic Lal Chowk, ahead of the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, Independence Day, and the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. Authorities have deployed additional police, CRPF, and other security forces in sensitive areas.
Extensive barricading is in place on major routes, with thorough vehicle checks being conducted. Continuous surveillance is maintained through foot patrols, drones, and CCTV cameras, with heightened searches for suspicious individuals. Strict measures are in effect to prevent any illegal demonstrations or public gatherings.
Intensified Vigilance at Lal Chowk
Lal Chowk, a site of national and political significance, is under a multi-layered security cordon due to potential terror threats and apprehensions of protests, according to intelligence reports. Security forces are on high alert to thwart any untoward incidents.
The public has been urged to remain vigilant, disregard rumors, and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. Lal Chowk has a historical association with the national flag. In 2019, an attempt by an ex-serviceman to unfurl the tricolor there just before Independence Day was prevented due to security concerns. Current security arrangements are exceptionally robust to prevent any disturbance.
