Special $1 Coin Featuring Trump's Likeness Released for Sale

In a unique move to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding, known as the Semiquincentennial, the United States has made special $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump available for sale. The U.S. Mint commenced the sale of rolls and bags of these coins on September 2, 2026.

This marks the first time in American history that a special $1 coin depicting a sitting president has been issued, forming an integral part of the 2026 Semiquincentennial commemoration. The special coin with Trump's image is a significant collectible.

Trump's Image on the Special Coin

The obverse of this special $1 coin features a portrait of President Donald J. Trump. He is depicted in a formal pose, wearing a suit and tie. Inscriptions such as 'LIBERTY', 'IN GOD WE TRUST', and '1776 ~ 2026' are present, signifying 250 years since America's founding.

According to the U.S. Mint, the design was created by its Chief Engraver, Joseph Menna. The design is based on an official portrait of President Trump taken by White House official photographer Daniel Torok.

Presidential Seal and the Number 250 on the Reverse

The reverse of the coin displays the official Presidential Seal of the United States. It features an eagle grasping an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other. A shield is emblazoned on the eagle's breast, and a banner in its beak reads 'E PLURIBUS UNUM' (Out of many, one).

Significantly, the number '250' is inscribed on this reverse side, symbolizing America's 250 years. The inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'ONE DOLLAR' are also featured.

Options and Pricing

The U.S. Mint has issued this special coin from the Philadelphia Mint and it is being sold in two main packaging options: a roll of 25 coins for $61 and a bag of 100 coins for $154.50. During the initial sales phase, a purchase limit of two products per household was established.

These prices are listed on the U.S. Mint's website, although the product is currently listed as 'backordered'. The coin's composition and color might initially suggest it's made of real gold due to its golden hue, but this is not the case.

Composition and Color

The U.S. Mint has clarified that this is not a 'gold coin' but a 'circulating dollar coin' with a golden color. Its composition includes 6 percent zinc, 3.5 percent manganese, 2 percent nickel, and the remainder copper. The coin weighs 8.10 grams and has a diameter of 26.49 millimeters.

Special 'July 4th' Privy Mark Coins

To further enhance the collectibility of this special coin, the U.S. Mint produced 250,000 coins with a special 'July 4th' privy mark at the Philadelphia Mint on July 4, 2026. These rare coins are not sold separately but have been randomly included in the general rolls and bags, making their discovery an exciting endeavor for collectors.

These coins are in 'circulation finish' but have not been released into regular circulation. However, they are all valid as legal tender. They represent a symbol of 250 years of history.

Symbol of 250 Years of History

America is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its Declaration of Independence in 2026. In honor of this historic occasion, the U.S. Mint has made special changes to the designs of several circulating coins for this year. The depiction of President Trump on the dollar coin is part of this broader initiative.

Under this program, in addition to dollar coins, designs on other U.S. coins such as quarters, half dollars, and dimes prominently feature the dates 1776 and 2026, along with themes of independence. The inclusion of these dates signifies the nation's milestone anniversary.

Increased Interest Among Collectors

This $1 coin featuring President Trump's portrait presents a unique example of the intersection between currency and collectibles. Interest among collectors is expected to be particularly high due to the existence of 250,000 coins with a special July 4th privy mark. The U.S. Mint has issued it as a memento of America's 250th anniversary.

Its actual collectible value will depend on future market demand and availability. This coin adds a new chapter to the history of American currency, attempting to encapsulate 250 years of the American journey within a small coin.
