Passengers aboard the Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express, a premium Indian Railways service, have voiced serious discontent regarding on-board cleanliness and service standards. During a journey from Bhopal to Kochipuram, travellers reported an unsettling presence of rodents and insects throughout their AC First Class cabins.

The distressing situation persisted overnight, leading to significant discomfort. Despite multiple attempts to seek redressal, including contacting railway staff and the official helpline, passengers claimed to have received no tangible assistance during their travel.

Infestation and Staff Response

Anil Tiwari, travelling in AC First Class A-cabin, described finding rats and cockroaches amidst pervasive filth. He alleged that train staff were unresponsive to his repeated complaints.

Instead of addressing the issue, Tiwari stated that staff members deflected blame onto passengers.

“Rats come because people eat food inside the coach,”

was the alleged reasoning provided by the staff, a response that deeply frustrated the passengers.

 

Escalation and Lack of Resolution

In an attempt to bring attention to the matter, Anil Tiwari escalated his grievance on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), tagging Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He questioned the railway's designation of 'world-class coaches' in light of the infestation.

While Railway Seva acknowledged the complaint and requested passenger details for forwarding to concerned officials, the on-ground situation for the passengers remained unchanged throughout their journey.

Disturbing Accounts from Fellow Travellers

Shivansh Tiwari shared an equally disturbing experience, reporting that his family was unable to sleep due to the persistent presence of pests. He claimed that rats moved across seats and even people, while cockroaches were found in passengers' hair.

Despite numerous complaints, including through the 139 helpline, only a rat trap was reportedly provided by the staff.

“What is the use of a trap when rats are running on our seats?” Shivansh questioned, adding, “We were even told that rats come because passengers eat food. Are passengers in AC First Class not allowed to eat?”
