Bilateral Discussions Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the second day of his two-day state visit to Uzbekistan, engaged in in-depth bilateral talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on Sunday. The high-level meeting covered various aspects of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.

Discussions encompassed key areas such as trade, investment, defense, energy, digital connectivity, education, and cultural exchange. A particularly significant point of discussion was the cooperation in uranium between the two countries.

Uranium Cooperation and Energy Security

Uzbekistan, a significant producer of uranium, possesses potential crucial for India's nuclear energy plans. This discussion is part of India's long-term strategy to bolster its energy security and diversify its nuclear fuel supply, thereby aiding in the expansion of the country's nuclear power capacity.

Overview of Prime Minister Modi's Uzbekistan Visit

Prime Minister Modi arrived in Tashkent on August 29, where he received a warm welcome from President Mirziyoyev at the airport. This marks Prime Minister Modi's fourth visit to Uzbekistan, underscoring the growing relations between the two nations.

During his visit, the Prime Minister also toured the 'Yangi Uzbekistan' Park with President Mirziyoyev and laid a wreath at the monument. He described the park as a symbol of the progressive aspirations of the people of Uzbekistan.

Prime Minister Modi also participated in a yoga event held in Tashkent. Cultural performances by Indian and Uzbek artists at this event highlighted the deep cultural connections and strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Moving Towards the SCO Summit

Following his visit to Uzbekistan, Prime Minister Modi will attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from August 31 to September 1. At this summit, India will present its priorities on crucial issues like security, regional connectivity, and cooperation.

Currently, all eyes are on the outcomes of the India-Uzbekistan bilateral talks in Tashkent. Specifically, new agreements in the fields of energy, uranium, trade, and investment are expected to further strengthen economic and strategic relations between the two nations.
