Major Drug Bust in Jabalpur

As part of a special campaign against drug trafficking, Madhya Pradesh Police have made a significant seizure in Jabalpur. Over 871 kilograms of ganja, with an estimated international market value of ₹4 crore 35 lakh 55 thousand, was confiscated from a container. The operation also led to the arrest of two smugglers identified as residents of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

This substantial recovery is the result of a joint operation conducted by the Jabalpur Police and the Narcotics Wing from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The arrests and seizure have potentially exposed an inter-state smuggling network.

Inter-State Smuggling Network Uncovered

The incident unfolded on October 30th when police received a tip regarding suspicious activity of a container, bearing registration number NL-01-AC-7191, on National Highway-30 (NH-30). Acting on the information, a special team comprising the Crime Branch and Ghoshalpur Police Station was formed.

The team strategically set up a blockade near the Muskara turn and Mohatra toll plaza on NH-30 to intercept the container. Upon being signaled to stop, the two individuals inside attempted to flee, but prompt action by the police ensured their apprehension on the spot. During initial interrogation, the arrested individuals confirmed their origins from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

Ganja Concealed Behind Paint Cans

A thorough search of the container revealed 412 cans of paint. Behind these cans, 28 sacks were found to be cleverly hidden. Upon closer inspection, these sacks contained packets of ganja sealed with khaki-colored tape.

Following the provisions of the NDPS Act, the total weight of the seized ganja was measured to be 871 kilograms and 95 grams. The arrested individuals confessed to bringing the consignment from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Confession and Ongoing Investigation

During preliminary questioning, the accused revealed that the ganja was loaded into the container under the instructions of an individual from Balangir, Odisha. The intended destination for this consignment was a pre-determined location near Maihar district in Madhya Pradesh.

One of the apprehended smugglers admitted to having previously worked for smugglers from Balangir, receiving ₹1 lakh for each successful delivery. The police have registered a case against both individuals under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and they are currently in custody for further interrogation.

Authorities are diligently working to unravel the entire inter-state network, aiming to identify other key figures and suppliers involved in this illegal trade. Police have reiterated their commitment to continuing such operations against drugs and pledged to coordinate with agencies from other states to dismantle the entire syndicate.
