National Seminar on Equestrian Sports Concludes in Bhopal

A national seminar focused on the development of equestrian sports, organized by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department of Madhya Pradesh, has concluded in Bhopal. Chaired by Sports Minister Shri Vishwas Kailash Sarang, the one-day workshop saw participation from renowned equestrian coaches, international players, experts, and representatives of government and private training institutions from across the country.

This initiative by Madhya Pradesh is the first of its kind at the national level, aiming for the comprehensive and planned development of equestrian sports. The objective is to popularize the sport and build a robust ecosystem for participants.

Comprehensive Roadmap for Holistic Development

During the seminar, extensive discussions were held on crucial aspects of equestrian sports, including its current landscape, the upliftment of athletes and coaches, modern training methodologies, sports infrastructure, availability of quality horses, and the organization of competitions. Minister Shri Sarang emphasized that this seminar is not just a platform for discussion but an innovative step by Madhya Pradesh towards formulating a long-term strategy for the development of equestrian sports nationwide.

The suggestions received from the seminar will be incorporated into policy and action plans, enabling Madhya Pradesh to establish an effective mechanism for identifying talent, providing training, and preparing athletes for international-level competitions.

Feeder Centers to be Developed in Partnership with NCC

Based on the seminar's recommendations, prompt steps will be taken to establish a system of feeder centers for equestrian sports in Madhya Pradesh. A partnership will be forged with the Army and NCC wings, transforming their training centers into feeder facilities. These centers will provide foundational equestrian training to budding athletes.

Subsequently, talented athletes will receive high-level training at the Madhya Pradesh State Equestrian Academy. This will establish an effective training framework in the state, from talent identification to preparation for national and international events.

State Championship and World-Class Quarantine Center Soon in Bhopal

To further popularize equestrian sports in the state and raise awareness among youth and the general public, a State Championship will be organized in Bhopal soon. Regular competitions will provide athletes with valuable competitive experience and build a broader base for equestrianism in the state.

Additionally, the Madhya Pradesh Sports and Youth Welfare Department will work towards constructing a world-class, internationally recognized horse quarantine center. This will allow Indian sports horses to participate directly in competitions without undergoing lengthy quarantine procedures.

Fusion of Indian Tradition and Modern Sports Science

Minister Shri Sarang stated that equestrian sports have always been an integral part of India's tradition and heritage. The Madhya Pradesh government's endeavor is to elevate equestrianism to new heights by integrating this glorious tradition with modern sports science, technology, and international standards.

The seminar's primary goals were to provide athletes with better training and opportunities, enhance coaches' proficiency, promote modern technology and scientific training, and foster better coordination among government and private training institutions.

Key Suggestions from Experts

Several significant suggestions emerged from the seminar. Colonel Rajpal Singh Ahluwalia, Secretary General of the Haryana Equestrian Sports Association, proposed its inclusion in the Khelo India Games. Lieutenant Colonel Mittal from the Rewa NCC Wing suggested a partnership to develop NCC training centers as feeder centers.

Asian Games rider Shri Ashish Limaye stressed the importance of raising awareness about the sport within society, while international rider Ms. Sudipti Hajela highlighted the need for advanced training for coaches and digital promotion of the sport. Athlete Shri Raju Singh suggested holding State Championships in Madhya Pradesh, and international rider Shri Anush Agarwalla spoke about developing necessary protocols in the country aligned with international standards. Shri Hriday Chheda, another international rider, proposed developing a standardized coaching course.

Representatives from prestigious institutions across the country, including Captain Sunil Kumar (GG Equestrian Sports Academy, Delhi), Shri Rakesh Kumar (RVC Centre, Meerut), and Shri M.J.S. Rathore (RVC Centre, Meerut), also shared their experiences.

Various prominent training institutions participated, including Rewa NCC, Mhow NCC, Ujjain Riding Club, MP Riding Club (Indore), R-9 Stables, Sky The Horse Academy (Bhopal), DPS Bhopal Equestrian Program, Doon International School (Jabalpur), and Daly College (Indore).

Madhya Pradesh State Equestrian Academy’s Achievements

Established in 2007, the Madhya Pradesh State Equestrian Academy is a significant center for training in disciplines like show jumping, dressage, and eventing. It has secured 284 medals in national competitions and 65 medals in international events.

The construction of an international-standard multi-purpose indoor arena in Bhopal is also in its final stages. Upon completion, it will further strengthen Madhya Pradesh's position as a major hub for equestrian sports.
