Luxury Bus Snatched from State Tax Custody Recovered Within Seven Hours in Bareilly

Bus Taken Without Permission

Bareilly witnessed a peculiar incident where a luxury bus was taken from the custody of the State Tax Department by its owner and driver without authorization. The incident, which occurred on the afternoon of September 18, 2026, caused a stir within the department.

The bus, valued at approximately Rs 11 lakh, was laden with illegal toys and circuit boards and was under the department's custody. The vehicle, bearing registration number UP81DT-2690, had been seized by the State Tax Department, Bareilly on September 3, 2026, after contraband worth around Rs 11 lakh was found inside without valid documentation.

A revenue demand of Rs 3,05,842 had been raised by the department in this case.

FIR Filed Upon Bus Disappearance

When the vehicle owner and driver attempted to take the bus from the department's premises without permission, the administrative machinery was immediately alerted, causing a commotion. Consequently, an FIR (File Number 457/26) was registered at Thana Cantt.

Police initiated a search for the vehicle owner, Faheem Ahmed, and driver, Danish Ali, filing a case against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Bus Recovered After Seven Hours

Acting swiftly on the information, a joint team of Cantt Police and GST personnel launched a search operation for the bus. After approximately seven hours of relentless effort, the team successfully recovered the bus about 200 meters before the Rithora toll on Pilibhit Road.

The goods loaded in the bus were found to be intact at the time of recovery. Police have taken possession of the bus and the Rs 11 lakh worth of goods. Further legal proceedings have commenced.

However, the accused managed to escape from the vehicle during this period, and police efforts to apprehend them are ongoing. The State Tax Department is conducting a thorough investigation of the seized goods and bus documents to prevent any potential revenue loss. This incident is currently a topic of discussion in Bareilly.
