Lokayukta Raids Assistant Grade-2 Official in Seoni, Uncovers Disproportionate Assets

The Lokayukta Police, Jabalpur, has conducted a major operation against Subhash Sharma, an Assistant Grade-2 posted in Seoni, on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known income. Simultaneous raids were carried out at five of the accused's locations in Jabalpur and Seoni. Preliminary investigations have revealed assets approximately 500 percent more than his declared income, estimated to be worth over Rs 6.40 crore, while his legitimate income is reported to be around Rs 1 crore.

Subhash Sharma is employed as an Assistant Grade-2 at the Regional Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Training Center in Seoni. For a considerable period, the Lokayukta Police had been receiving complaints against him regarding corruption and the accumulation of disproportionate assets. After verifying these allegations and finding them to be true, two teams launched raids early Saturday morning at his residences and other properties in Seoni and Jabalpur.

Detailed Investigation of Assets Across Five Locations

During the Lokayukta's operation, officials conducted thorough searches of the accused's main residence, various properties, and other related premises. Documents related to land, bank account records, various investments, and other financial instruments were seized.

The primary objective of this action is to ascertain the disparity between the income earned by the accused from his government service and the movable and immovable properties registered in his name or in the names of his family members. Officials are also investigating the source of funds used for the acquisition of these properties.

Estimated Assets Worth Rs 6.40 Crore Against Legitimate Income of Rs 1 Crore

According to preliminary information provided by Lokayukta officials, Subhash Sharma's total income from his government service and other legitimate sources is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore. In contrast, the estimated value of the assets uncovered during the search so far exceeds Rs 6.40 crore, which is approximately five times his known income. However, it has been clarified that the final figure of his assets will be determined only after a detailed examination of all documents and financial records is complete. Officials also believe this figure may increase as the investigation progresses.

Investigation Covers Luxury Homes, Plots, and Farmhouse

During the search, significant documents related to houses and vacant plots located in Trimurti Nagar, Ambedkar Colony, and other areas of Jabalpur, besides his main residence, were obtained. Various aspects such as the purchase dates of these lands, their original prices, payment methods, and current market values are being intensely scrutinized. Furthermore, an investigation is underway to determine the extent of properties registered in the names of other family members besides the accused.

A Lokayukta team also inspected a farmhouse located in a rural area of Patan tehsil, where its property, construction, and related investments are being assessed.

Luxury Cars, Bank Accounts, and Jewelry Under Scrutiny

During the raids, two luxury cars along with other two-wheelers were also recovered from Subhash Sharma's garage. Records related to the purchase, registration, and payment for these vehicles are being collected to include their value and ownership in the assessment of the accused's total assets.

Additionally, the team has acquired information and documents pertaining to the accused's accounts in various banks, insurance policies, investments, and gold and silver jewelry. The amounts deposited in bank accounts, fixed deposits, insurance investments, and other financial instruments will now be reconciled with the accused's known income to arrive at the final assessment of disproportionate assets.

Case Registered Under Prevention of Corruption Act

The Lokayukta Police has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and commenced the investigation process. Several officials, including DSP Rekha Prajapati and Inspectors Jitendra Yadav and Rahul Gajbhiye, are involved in this inquiry. Teams are continuously examining records of land documents, bank accounts, investments, vehicles, jewelry, and other assets.

A significant aim of this investigation is also to determine if the accused has misused his position to illegally acquire assets. As the investigation progresses, the value of assets may increase further. According to Lokayukta officials, the current figure of over Rs 6.40 crore in assets is only preliminary. As the detailed examination of documents and financial records seized during the search progresses, the true value of the assets and the extent of disproportionate assets will become clear.

This simultaneous action at five locations in Seoni and Jabalpur has created a stir within the government department. The next phase of the investigation will focus on the verification and actual valuation of properties, and if additional benami or disproportionate assets are uncovered, the scope of this case could expand further.
