Escalating Conflict in Lebanon

Dozens were killed in a wave of Israeli strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon on Tuesday. This followed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's vow to intensify military action against Hezbollah.

Lebanon's health ministry reported at least 31 deaths, including children. The Israeli military claimed to have hit over 100 Hezbollah infrastructure sites and fighters.

Netanyahu's Vow and Military Response

Netanyahu stated he had instructed the military to "press the pedal even harder" against Hezbollah. He added that Israel was "deepening our operation in Lebanon".

 

"The IDF [Israel Defense Forces] is operating with large forces on the ground and seizing dominant terrain," he said.

 

Early Wednesday, sirens sounded in northern Israel after a projectile launch from Lebanon. The projectile landed in an open area causing no injuries.

Impact on Lebanese Civilians

The strikes targeted areas including the Bekaa Valley village of Mashghara and Burj al-Shamali. Some strikes hit near the UNESCO-recognized Beaufort Castle.

A man and his wife were killed in Arab Salim, and two others in Kauthariyet El Rez. Overnight strikes destroyed homes in Mashghara.

The Lebanese health ministry reported 11 bodies, including a woman and two children, were pulled from the rubble in Mashghara. Another 15 people were injured. Videos show rescue crews digging through rubble to save civilians.

Hezbollah's Response and Ceasefire Violations

Hezbollah claimed it targeted three barracks and a military post in northern Israel. This was supposedly "in response to the violation of the ceasefire" by Israel.

The Israeli military issued new evacuation orders across Lebanon. They accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire that began on April 17.

Col Avichay Adraee stated that Hezbollah's breaches left Israeli forces with no choice but to act.

Casualties and Infrastructure Damage

The Israeli military reported that a soldier was killed in combat on Sunday, bringing total Israeli military losses to 23 since March 2, along with one civilian contractor.

The Lebanese health ministry reports that Israeli strikes have killed at least 3,185 people.

The military said it struck over 90 weapons storage facilities, command centres, and observation posts used by Hezbollah.
