Strict Action Against Noise Polluters in Farrukhabad

Following strict directives from District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lathar, an intensive campaign was launched in Farrukhabad city, Uttar Pradesh, against vehicles causing noise pollution. The campaign was spearheaded by ARTO-Enforcement Subhash Rajput and Traffic In-charge Om Prakash Pandey.

The primary objective of this drive was to curb the use of modified silencers, pressure horns, and sirens within the city, which violate traffic regulations and contribute to noise pollution. During the campaign, three trucks were found using pressure horns. These vehicles were immediately seized, and a substantial fine of Rs 30,000 was imposed on them, highlighting the department's seriousness in tackling noise pollution.

Action Taken Against Bullet Motorcycles and Workshops

In addition to the trucks, three Bullet motorcycles were observed on the city streets fitted with modified silencers. Fines totaling Rs 67,000 were levied on these motorcycles, along with the issuance of challans. Considering the violation of rules, proceedings have been initiated to suspend the driving licenses and registration certificates (RC) of these motorcycles for three months.

The inspection team also visited the workshop of Ankur Auto Agency, an authorized Royal Enfield dealer, located under the Kaderi Gate police station area. During the inspection, a Bullet motorcycle brought in for service was found with a modified silencer. This motorcycle was challaned on the spot within the workshop premises, incurring a fine of Rs 20,000, and the modified silencer was removed immediately.

Workshop Operators Warned, Stricter Penalties Detailed

Subsequently, the team surveyed other motorcycle repair shops in the city. These shops were checked for modified silencers, and their operators were issued stern warnings. They were clearly instructed that if modified silencers are found at their establishments in the future, strict legal action would be taken against them.

As per the directives issued by the Transport Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, provisions exist for taking action against dealers, motor garages, or workshop operators who fit modified silencers, pressure horns, or sirens. Such operators can face fines of up to Rs 1 lakh per violation under the Motor Vehicles Act. Any modification by vehicle owners to their vehicle parts will also attract legal proceedings under the Motor Vehicles Act.

For a first offense, the vehicle owner will be fined Rs 10,000, and their driving license will be suspended for three months. Action to suspend the registration certificates of vehicles found with noise-polluting devices is also being prioritized.

The Transport Department has also appealed to citizens to report vehicles using modified silencers by contacting the helpline numbers 1800 1800 151 and 149.
