India Seals Deal for US-Made Javelin Anti-Tank Missiles

The Indian Army has signed a significant agreement with the United States for the procurement of US-made Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems, further strengthening defense cooperation between the two nations. The Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) was signed between the Indian Army and the US government on August 28, 2026.

Acquisition Under US Foreign Military Sales

This procurement will be conducted under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process, aimed at meeting India's immediate anti-armor needs. According to the US defense sales notification, the deal includes the purchase of 100 FGM-148 Javelin rounds, one training missile, and 25 Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLU) or Javelin Block 1 Command Launch Units for India.

The estimated cost for this proposed package is approximately $45.7 million USD (approximately 457 million dollars). This acquisition is being made through 'Emergency Procurement' to expedite the delivery of the missiles and provide an immediate boost to the Army's anti-tank capabilities.

Javelin Missile: Symbol of Modern Warfare Capability

The Javelin is a highly advanced, man-portable, medium-range, fire-and-forget anti-tank weapon system. It is specifically designed to precisely target tanks and other armored vehicles.
