Businessman Suspected in Wife's Fatal Shooting

A Hyderabad real estate businessman, D Arun Kumar (48), is suspected of shooting his second wife, Nishita Rani alias Nisha Rani, to death. The incident occurred at his Malkajgiri residence in the early hours of Wednesday.

This tragic event unfolds just months after Kumar was arrested for allegedly plotting to kill her using an illegal firearm, indicating a deeply troubled marital history.

Background of Marital Discord

Kumar, a resident of Maruti Nagar in Malkajgiri, had previously separated from his first wife due to her prolonged ill health. He then married her sister, Rani, approximately five years ago.

Marital tensions reportedly developed after Arun began suspecting Rani's fidelity. Following frequent disputes, the couple had started living separately.

Previous Murder Plot Unveiled

Earlier this year, police had arrested Arun in an arms case, revealing an alleged prior plan to eliminate Rani. He had reportedly procured a country-made pistol from Munger in Bihar for this purpose.

On March 9, 2026, Charminar Task Force personnel, along with Amberpet police, apprehended Arun and two associates, Mohammed Abbu (26) and Mir Muzammil Ali Khan (23), at Ali Cafe X Roads in Amberpet.

Authorities seized a country-made pistol, six live rounds, and a two-wheeler from their possession.

"We produced the accused before the court and they were remanded to judicial custody. Arun spent more than 40 days in jail," stated Amberpet Inspector T Kiran Kumar.

The charge sheet in that arms case is still pending, as the alleged weapon suppliers have not yet been arrested.

Fatal Encounter and Escape

Investigators reveal that Kumar contacted Rani late on Tuesday night, asking her to come to his house to discuss family issues. During their meeting, he allegedly opened fire on her in the early hours of Wednesday, causing her instantaneous death at the scene.

Police suspect another individual may have been present with Arun at the time of the crime. Both individuals allegedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Ongoing Manhunt and Investigation

A comprehensive manhunt has been launched to trace D Arun Kumar and any potential accomplice. Rani's body has been shifted for post-mortem examination, and a murder case has been officially registered as the investigation continues.

What to Watch Next

Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend D Arun Kumar and any potential accomplices involved in the shooting. Future developments will likely include arrests, further questioning, and details emerging from the ongoing post-mortem examination and murder investigation. The status of the pending charge sheet from the earlier arms case involving Kumar will also be a point of interest.
