Cattle Smuggling Ring Uncovered in Gwalior

The Cliff News | Gwalior | September 22, 2026 A major cattle smuggling racket was exposed on Tuesday morning in the Miyana police station area of Gwalior district. Acting on information from local cow protection activists, police seized two pickup trucks packed with a large number of calves in a cruel manner.

Six Arrested in Connection with Smuggling

In connection with this, police have arrested six individuals and registered a case against them under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Around 10:30 AM, cow protection activists in Miyana received information that two pickup vehicles, bearing registration numbers MP 69-1140 and MP 45-2710, were transporting calves loaded from the direction of Umri.

Cruelty Discovered in Seized Vehicles

Upon receiving the information, Ramsingh Rajak, Akshat Shukana, and Kanhaiya Kushwah attempted to stop the vehicles near the Umri bridge. Miyana police arrived at the scene and intercepted and seized both vehicles. An investigation revealed that five calves were crammed into each pickup truck with extreme tightness, their necks bound by ropes, and with no provision for feed or water, indicating severe animal cruelty.

Fake Letterhead and Allegations of Political Connections

The arrested individuals in this case are Aman Singh Mada, Heeru Singh Chauhan, Chhagan Mada, Keram Singh Rawat, Deepak Baghel, and Kamal Singh Patelia. During interrogation, the arrested accused stated that these calves were being transported from Shikari village in Bamori to Alirajpur. During a search, police recovered a fake letterhead of a minister from the possession of the accused.

Police Investigating Deeper into the Network

Following the recovery of this fake letterhead, police are trying to get to the bottom of the entire matter and are actively searching for the main operators behind this operation. While being taken to the police station, the accused also attempted to create a dispute and engage in a scuffle with the police. A medical examination of all seized calves has been conducted. Cow protection activists have also leveled serious allegations of local political involvement regarding this smuggling gang active in the area. Police are further investigating the case under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
