UPI Fee Protest: Farrukhabad Traders Submit Memorandum at DM Office
Farrukhabad | The Cliff News | September 18, 2026. Under the banner of the All India Industry Trade Council, traders in Farrukhabad have registered a strong protest against the proposed 0.4 percent fee on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions. A delegation of traders met with City Magistrate Parul Tarar at the District Magistrate's office in Fatehgarh on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding the withdrawal of this proposed fee.
The delegation included approximately 50 traders, such as District General Secretary Ravikant Gupta, City General Secretary Vivek Kumar Gupta, Organization Minister Arpit Gupta, Youth City President Salman Khan, and Media In-charge Anwar Pathan. Other traders including Satyaveer Singh, Omveer Singh, Aman Kashyap, Michael Gupta, Toseem Khan, and Munna also marked their presence at the protest.
Traders' Objections to Proposed Fee
In their memorandum, the traders stated that the additional 0.4 percent fee on UPI transactions would prove to be a significant financial burden for small businesses. They argued that many businesses are already operating on minimal profit margins, and this fee would increase their operational costs, likely impacting customers as well. A large section of traders has supported the government's digital payment promotion efforts, but such fees are contrary to that spirit.
Administration Assures Escalation of Demands
City Magistrate Parul Tarar listened patiently to the concerns and objections of the assembled traders. She assured them that the issues raised and their demands would be conveyed to the higher levels of governance through the appropriate government channels. The traders expressed their gratitude for the City Magistrate's positive response.
This protest highlights the concerns of small and medium-sized businesses regarding the potential additional financial burden imposed by fees on digital payment systems.
