Farrukhabad Cracks Down on Reused Cooking Oil; 'Collect My Oil' to Handle Collection
Farrukhabad's food safety department is enforcing stricter regulations on reused cooking oil, partnering with 'Collect My Oil' for collection.

Stricter Regulations on Reused Cooking Oil in Farrukhabad
The Food Safety Department in Farrukhabad has initiated a crackdown on serious negligence concerning public health. Now, the quality of repeatedly used cooking oil in hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and other food establishments will be under strict surveillance. The department has entrusted an organization named 'Collect My Oil' with the responsibility of safely collecting used cooking oil.
Assistant Commissioner of the Food Safety Department, Ajit Kumar, Food Safety Officer Sanjay Kumar, and Rohit Agnihotri from FSSAI's RUCO (Repurposed Used Cooking Oil) along with their team, visited various establishments to implement this new system. During these visits, necessary containers for the safe collection of oil were also provided.
Health Hazards of Reused Oil
As per FSSAI guidelines, repeatedly heating cooking oil degrades its quality significantly. This process can generate harmful compounds that pose serious risks to human health. Used oil not only spoils the taste of food but can also lead to various illnesses in the body.
Environmental Concerns Addressed
Beyond health, the improper disposal of used oil also harms the environment. Pouring old oil down drains can cause blockages, leading to drainage problems and placing additional strain on sewage systems. This initiative is also a significant step towards environmental protection.
Enforcement of Rules and Potential Actions
The Food Safety Department has clarified that strict action will be taken against any food businesses that fail to comply with these regulations. Provisions range from issuing notices to defaulting establishments during inspections to suspending or completely revoking their food licenses.
The move has been welcomed by the operators of various establishments. Many operators have pledged to hand over their used oil to 'Collect My Oil'.
'Collect My Oil' has appealed to all food businesses not to pour used oil down drains or reuse it for cooking. Instead, they are urged to cooperate in making Farrukhabad a safer and healthier city by safely handing it over to their authorized collection centers.
Present on this occasion were also Ankit Shukla, Rajan Dwivedi, Ankit Yadav, and Alok Trivedi.
