Consumer Accuses Under-filling of Petrol

A dispute erupted between consumers and employees at a petrol pump in the Qadri Gate police station area of Farrukhabad on Tuesday, stemming from allegations of dispensing less petrol than paid for. The situation escalated, leading to police involvement and the initiation of an investigation by officials from the Supply Department.

The incident occurred at a petrol pump located near Badri Vishal Degree College. Sudhir Yadav, a resident of Khamor, arrived with his uncle Jagpal and a friend to purchase approximately ₹200 worth of petrol for his motorcycle.

Consumer Alleges Shortage, Police Action Taken

After refueling, Sudhir Yadav suspected he had received less petrol than the amount paid for. His complaint to the petrol pump staff resulted in a heated exchange between both parties. Yadav alleged that despite a receipt for ₹200, the quantity of petrol was insufficient.

Witnessing the escalating dispute, he called the police via dial 112. Upon the police's arrival, a motorcycle mechanic was summoned. In the presence of the petrol pump employees and manager, petrol was extracted from the motorcycle. According to Yadav, after mixing with the pre-existing fuel, the total quantity was about one liter, meaning the ₹200 worth of petrol amounted to only about half a liter. This discrepancy further intensified the conflict.

Dayanand Patel, the in-charge of the Roadways police outpost, arrived at the scene with police personnel. Sudhir Yadav and his companions also alleged that, even in the presence of the police, the petrol pump staff threatened to shut down the pump and take everyone to the police station.

Supply Department Takes Charge of Investigation

Upon receiving information about the incident, Supply Inspector Neha Gupta also reached the spot. She inspected the petrol pump and commenced an examination of the relevant records. Inspector Gupta stated that a thorough investigation is underway and the exact quantity of petrol will be clarified only after the investigation is complete.

Meanwhile, the petrol pump owner attributed the dispute to an old rivalry. He suggested that the customer and the pump employees are residents of neighboring villages and may have had prior disagreements, which could have led to this incident. Currently, police and supply department officials are jointly investigating the matter. The findings of the investigation will determine whether consumers were indeed given less petrol or if there was another reason behind the dispute.
