Procurement Center Under Fire

The Usha Warehouse Moong Procurement Center in Muar Khas, under the Thawari Cooperative Society in the Kesli block of Sagar district's Deori constituency, is once again embroiled in allegations of irregularities and illegal collections. Farmers have accused the center of gross negligence in the procurement process and of extorting money from them.

Despite informing the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and continuous media coverage, no effective action has been taken by the administration, leading to widespread anger among farmers. They claim the center in-charge is acting arbitrarily, citing political patronage. Furthermore, farmers allege that the administration is turning a blind eye due to the center in-charge's close ties with BJP leaders.

Unfulfilled Assurances and Systemic Breakdown

This situation arises even after the Kesli SDM had assured strict action against the center in-charge following a report by journalists, promising an inspection of the Thawari Cooperative Society's center. However, this assurance has remained unfulfilled, with no tangible changes observed on the ground.

Farmers' primary grievance is the severe disruption of the procurement process due to the center in-charge's alleged mismanagement. Significant disarray persists in systems like timely weighing, registration, and payments. Consequently, farmers traveling from afar are forced to wait for hours to sell their produce, facing considerable hardship.

Farmers Demand Action and Threaten Protest

Farmers are demanding a fair investigation into the allegations at the procurement center. They insist that if illegal collections are confirmed, stringent action must be taken against responsible officials and staff. Farmers have appealed for transparency in the procurement process and relief from any form of harassment.

They have also requested the district administration to monitor the entire situation and ensure the protection of farmers' interests. Villagers and farmers have warned that if the situation does not improve soon, they will be compelled to file a collective complaint with the district administration and initiate protests.
