Opposition Accused of Derailing Assembly Proceedings

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has leveled serious allegations against the Samajwadi Party (SP) and other opposition parties, accusing them of obstructing the discussion of crucial bills and public welfare proposals through disruptions in the Assembly.

He stated that the opposition, by violating the decorum and democratic traditions of the House, had snatched away the opportunity for meaningful dialogue on issues of public interest. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government was adhering to the rule under Rule 59, which prohibits discussions on matters sub judice in courts or tribunals.

Despite this, the opposition disrupted proceedings by waving placards and creating noise. He alleged that this conduct demonstrated an undemocratic attitude contrary to the interests of the people of Uttar Pradesh. He further stated that there was an opportunity to discuss important issues related to youth, farmers, women, and the poor, which the opposition undermined through their disruptions.

Assembly Stalled Amidst Opposition Uproar

The Assembly witnessed disruptions due to opposition members demanding discussions on various issues, including legal matters related to the Ram Janmabhoomi. This uproar prevented Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from delivering his full address effectively.

Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana adopted a firm stance to maintain order in the House and appealed to all members to follow the rules. The Chief Minister remarked that while the right to protest exists in a democracy, maintaining the dignity and order of the House is the collective responsibility of every member.

He reminded them that assurances of positive discussions on all subjects were given in the all-party meeting, which the opposition failed to uphold in the House. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the opposition's stance as a grave disregard for the state's populace. He asserted that the Assembly is a platform for raising public issues and finding solutions, not for creating chaos.

Opposition's Actions Deemed Disrespectful to the House

The conduct of the SP and other opposition parties is an insult to this esteemed platform. It is the duty of publicly elected representatives to play a constructive role in the legislative process, not to obstruct it. Due to this deadlock, several important bills, requiring detailed discussion and deliberation, have been left pending.

The government wished to strongly present proposals related to the state's progress and citizen welfare in the House, but the opposition, through its demands and methods of protest, lost this opportunity. The Chief Minister also stressed that as members of the legislature, everyone has a duty to cooperate in the smooth running of the House's proceedings.

Provisions like Rule 59 are made to ensure the independence of the judiciary and the impartiality of ongoing cases. The opposition's violation of these rules was not only inappropriate but also reflected their lack of respect for the functioning of legislative bodies. The Chief Minister urged the opposition to participate in constructive dialogue and contribute to the state's development, rather than creating obstacles that ultimately do not serve the public interest.
