Blue Origin’s New Glenn Rocket Set for Mars-Bound ESCAPADE Mission

Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin is gearing up for a major milestone: its second New Glenn rocket launch, carrying NASA’s ESCAPADE twin probes to Mars. The rollout of the 320-foot booster at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station marks a critical step toward this interplanetary mission, targeted for late October or early November.

The mission’s payload, ESCAPADE (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers), consists of two orbiters named Blue and Gold, built by Rocket Lab. The probes will study how sunlight and solar wind interact with Mars’ atmosphere, providing crucial data for understanding habitability and the challenges of future crewed missions.

New Glenn’s flight will also test reusability: Blue Origin plans to recover the first stage, nicknamed “Never Tell Me the Odds,” on its Jacklyn drone ship. The rocket previously completed a successful orbital debut in January, and upgrades have been implemented after an earlier landing attempt fell short.

A successful mission would be a major win for both Blue Origin and NASA, cementing New Glenn as a strong competitor in the commercial heavy-lift sector and paving the way for more Mars-bound private missions.
