A grand musical evening in Bhopal honored the legendary Kishore Kumar, celebrating his enduring legacy through performances by emerging artists and renowned musicians.

Cultural Department Organizes Musical Tribute
The Culture Department of the Madhya Pradesh government organized a grand musical evening titled 'Yeh Shaam Mastani' in Bhopal's Ravindra Bhavan to commemorate the birth anniversary of the late Kishore Kumar, the illustrious singer, actor, and multifaceted genius of Indian cinema. The event, held on Tuesday, aimed to pay homage to the invaluable heritage of Indian film music that has connected with millions of listeners through its melodies and emotions for decades.
The chief guest for the program was the Hon'ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture, Tourism, Religious Trusts and Endowments, Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi. He was accompanied by Director Culture Shri N.P. Namdev and Deputy Director Dr. Pooja Shukla. The guests inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp and welcomed renowned music director and singer Shri Anu Malik and Shri Anil Srivastava. Certificates were also presented to LNCT Group's 'Aagaaz Band' and Sage University's band on this occasion. A large number of music lovers attended the event and thoroughly enjoyed Kishore Kumar's songs.
Cultural Consciousness and Remembrance of Great Personalities
In his address, Hon'ble Culture Minister Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi stated that the Culture Department of the Madhya Pradesh government operates on the principle that a society's cultural consciousness remains alive only when it continuously strives to pass on the contributions of its great personalities and artists to the new generation. It is with this objective that various events are organized across the state in memory of different great figures. 'Yeh Shaam Mastani' is a powerful link in this glorious tradition.
Minister Shri Lodhi expressed his pleasure that the Culture Department has been organizing this musical evening for ten consecutive years, and it has been evolving into a cultural festival for music lovers each year. He remarked that the sacred land of Madhya Pradesh has been the birthplace of many great personalities, and it is this land that gave Indian cinema an unparalleled artist like Kishore Kumar, whose talent cannot be adequately described by a single introduction. Kishore Kumar was not just a playback singer; he was a complete artistic institution in himself. His voice possessed a diversity of emotions that effortlessly expressed love, separation, humor, compassion, enthusiasm, and the philosophy of life.
Anu Malik and Anil Srivastava Captivate the Audience
The musical evening commenced with a performance by the acclaimed composer and singer Shri Anu Malik, who presented his unique style. Describing Bhopal as a city of culture, he expressed his delight in being there and extended his gratitude to the Culture Department for organizing such an excellent program, especially in memory of the great singer who inspired his musical journey and with whom he had the opportunity to work.
Shri Malik began his performance with the popular song 'Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen...' and shared the journey of its creation. He then had the audience enthralled with songs like 'Ek Garam Chai Ki Pyaali Ho', 'Jawani Phir Na Aaye', and 'Oonchi Hai Building'. Following him, the stage was taken over by Shri Anil Srivastava, winner of 'K for Kishore', and a renowned singer. He created an evening with the evergreen songs of the great singer Kishore Kumar that the music lovers of Bhopal will remember for a long time.
Shri Srivastava presented the title song of the program, 'Yeh Shaam Mastani...', in a very unique style. He then performed popular songs such as 'Rimjhim Gire Saawan', 'Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se', 'Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein', 'Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai', and 'Salaam E Ishq'. The evening of song and music continued late into the night, with the audience enjoying the music until the very end.
Enthusiastic Performances by Young Talents
A significant achievement of this event was the active participation of young talents. Young artists from various educational institutions in Bhopal were provided a platform through inter-collegiate music performances organized by the Culture Department on August 3, 2026. The selected bands from these competitions, LNCT Group's 'Aagaaz Band' and Sage University's band, were invited to perform at the musical evening.
First, Sage University's band took to the stage. They presented songs like 'Haal Kya Hai Dilon Ka', 'Hamein Tumse Pyar Kitna', 'Yeh Dosti Hum Nahin Todenge', and 'Om Shanti Om' in a new and refreshing style. Following them, LNCT Group's 'Aagaaz Band' performed. They won the hearts of the audience with songs like 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', 'Neele Neele Ambar Par', 'Mere Sapnon Ki Rani', and 'O Mere Dil Ke Chain', filling the atmosphere with joy.
The confident performances by these young artists proved that Kishore Kumar's legacy continues to inspire today's youth, and they are striving to preserve it in their unique styles.
