Bhopal: Detergent Confirmed in Milk, Nanhe Chacha Dairy License Suspended

Serious Concerns Over Milk Purity in Bhopal

A deeply concerning issue regarding the purity of milk has emerged in Bhopal, compelling the Food Safety Department to take immediate action. Detergent contamination has been confirmed in mixed milk samples from 'Nanhe Chacha Milk Dairy' located on Itwara Road.

Following this confirmation, the Food and Drug Administration has suspended the dairy's food registration with immediate effect. The department is now preparing to file an FIR (First Information Report) in this matter. A food analyst's report has declared the milk sample 'unsafe' for human consumption.

Daily Sales and Milk Sourcing

According to information from the Food Safety Department, 'Nanhe Chacha Milk Dairy' used to sell approximately 200 to 300 liters of mixed milk daily. The dairy operator sourced milk from the Shamgarh area of Sehore district and surrounding rural areas, mixed it, and then sold it to customers in the city.

Acting on suspicions of milk adulteration, a team from the Food Safety Department collected a sample of mixed milk from the dairy on July 27. This sample was sent to the food testing laboratory for analysis, where a report received on August 4 confirmed the presence of detergent.

Milk Declared Unsafe for Consumption

Following the food analyst's examination, the report clearly stated that the collected milk sample was unsafe according to food safety standards. Immediately after the report was released, the Food and Drug Administration took strict action against the dairy.

The suspension order emphasized that milk and dairy products are directly linked to human consumption, and the presence of harmful substances like detergent in milk constitutes a serious violation of food safety. The department also acknowledged that the mixed milk being sold by the establishment was not safe for consumers' health and that continuing its operation without effective control was not in the public interest.

License Suspension and Business Halt

In accordance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its rules, the food registration of 'Nanhe Chacha Milk Dairy' has been suspended with immediate effect. During this suspension period, the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of any type of milk, mixed milk, or any other food product from this establishment will be completely prohibited.

The department is now preparing to initiate further legal proceedings against the dairy operator, including the process of filing an FIR.

In-depth Investigation of Milk Supply Chain Likely

Initial information suggests that the dairy operator procured large quantities of milk from dairies in Shamgarh and surrounding rural areas of Sehore. This milk was then mixed and sold in the city. Following this revelation, the Food Safety Department may now conduct a thorough investigation into the milk supply sources and the entire supply chain.

If similar adulteration is found to be occurring at other locations, strict action can be taken against the individuals involved. This step will help ensure that adulteration is not confined to a single dairy but that its original source is also identified.

Action on Approximately 14 Quintals of Ghee Stock

In a related development, the Food Safety Department conducted a raid on a wholesale trader, 'Sheetla Pooja Bhandar', located in the Mangalwara-Jumrati area of the city, on suspicion of adulteration. During this operation, the department seized approximately 13 quintals and 94 kilograms of ghee, with an estimated market value of around seven lakh rupees.

This incident indicates that the web of food adulteration is widespread, and the department is expanding its surveillance to various products. At the time of the raid, the team found a large stock of ghee from different brands. The department immediately collected samples of these brands and sent them to the state food testing laboratory for examination.

The quality of the ghee and the presence of any adulteration will be confirmed only after the report is received. According to the Chief Food Safety Officer, 33 tins of 15 kg each of 'Arihant Ghee' and 60 tins of 'Makhan Shri Ghee' were seized during the operation. Four samples of 'Makhan Shri Ghee' have been specifically sent for testing. The seized ghee stock has been secured.

Department Intensifies Investigation Against Adulteration

Following actions such as the confirmation of detergent in milk and the seizure of a large quantity of ghee, the Food Safety Department has intensified its surveillance on the quality of other food products sold in the city. The department's primary objective is to completely halt the sale of adulterated and unsafe food products and to take strict legal action against individuals who compromise consumers' health.

In the next stages of investigation and legal action, it will be crucial to determine the level and location of adulteration and identify all individuals responsible for this serious offense.
