Awareness Campaign Launched on Waste Segregation and Single-Use Plastics

City-Wide Awareness Drive for a Cleaner Environment

The Municipal Integrated Public Relations (IEC) team conducted a significant awareness campaign across various wards and educational institutions on Monday, aiming to promote cleanliness and environmental protection within the city. The campaign educated citizens and students about the importance of waste segregation, the detrimental effects of single-use plastics, and the significance of tree plantation.

These activities were carried out under the directives of Municipal President Jyoti Surendra Chaurasia and Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) Madhuri Sharma, with guidance from Sanitation Nodal Officer Nitesh Chaurasia.

Focus on Waste Segregation and Its Benefits

A special session was organized for residents in Saket Nagar Colony, Ward No. 34, where the four-bin waste segregation system was explained in detail. Citizens were encouraged to separate wet, dry, household hazardous, and other types of waste into designated bins to enhance the effectiveness of waste management.

Spreading Environmental Education in Schools

In a similar initiative, students and faculty at Shri Jawahar International School in Ward No. 35 received comprehensive information on proper waste segregation and disposal methods. The aim of these sessions was to foster a sense of environmental responsibility among the younger generation, illustrating how small daily changes can contribute to environmental protection.

'Amrit Harit Abhiyan' Promotes Greening Efforts

Furthermore, a large-scale tree plantation drive, as part of the 'Amrit Harit Abhiyan,' was held at Angel Public High School on Sagar Road. Children and teachers actively participated, not only planting saplings but also pledging to care for them regularly. Tree plantation was also undertaken on the road divider opposite the District Hospital, with the objective of increasing greenery in the city and encouraging citizens to connect with nature.

Promoting Home Composting and Community Participation

In Sun City Colony, Ward No. 34, a home composting activity was demonstrated to residents, teaching them how to convert wet kitchen waste into valuable compost. This technique not only reduces waste but also yields useful organic fertilizer. The IEC team urged all citizens to actively cooperate with the sanitation system, segregate waste at the source, and play a crucial role in environmental conservation.
