Indore Sets World Record with 8,534-Person Human Chain Against Drug Abuse

Historic Achievement in Drug Awareness

Indore has etched a historic achievement in the field of drug addiction awareness, setting a new world record by forming a human chain of 8,534 people. This massive public gathering, organized by the Indore Police Commissionerate under the Madhya Pradesh Police's 'Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0' (Distance from Drugs is Necessary 2.0) campaign, not only united society against drug abuse but also surpassed its own previous record of 7,100 people.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and the guidance of Director General of Police Kailash Makwana, this ambitious campaign received unprecedented public support from various sections of society. Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh skillfully directed the event, which saw significant participation from students, social organizations, athletes, members of the Nagar Suraksha Samiti (Local Security Committee), police officers and personnel, and the general public, sending a powerful message for a drug-free society.

Towards Two World Records Simultaneously

This event extended beyond just the formation of a human chain. During the same program, a large-scale mass awareness session was conducted, aiming to educate over 8,534 individuals about the severe consequences of drug abuse. A claim for a world record has also been submitted for this collective awareness initiative, marking significant progress by the Indore Police Commissionerate towards establishing two world records in a single event.

Editors Apoorva Menon and Palash Shukla from the World Book of Records certified this important achievement. They officially recognized Indore's historic success by presenting the record certificate to Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh.

Call for Unity Against Drugs

“Addiction is a social evil that casts a dark shadow not only on an individual's life but also on their entire family and society,” stated Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, emphasizing the need for collective action.

Addressing the event, Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh stressed that addiction is a social evil that darkens not just an individual's life but their entire family and society. He specifically appealed to the youth to protect themselves from addiction and to alert those around them about its destructive effects. Mr. Singh clarified that the fight against drugs is not solely the responsibility of the police department but a shared and collective responsibility of families, educational institutions, social organizations, government administration, and, most importantly, the general public.

He expressed confidence that a healthy and drug-free society can only be built through the coordinated and continuous efforts of everyone. On this occasion, the Police Commissioner administered a collective pledge to the thousands of participants to remain drug-free, educate their families and friends, and actively contribute to building a drug-free Indore and a drug-free Madhya Pradesh.

Participation Across Societal Strands

Senior police officials and representatives from various organizations graced this historic and massive public event. This included Additional Police Commissioners R.K. Singh and Mayank Awasthi, various Deputy Commissioners of Police, Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, and Station House Officers, along with a large number of police officers and employees.

In addition, students from the Police Training College, RAPTC, various schools and colleges, trainee doctors from the Medical College, athletes from the Physical Academy, representatives from various social organizations, members of the Nagar Suraksha Samiti, social media influencers, media representatives, and thousands of common citizens participated in the event, transforming it into a people's movement. This widespread participation demonstrated society's strong commitment to the fight against drugs.

Drug-Free Campaign Strengthened by Public Participation

As part of the 'Nashe Se Doori Hai Zaroori 2.0' campaign, being conducted statewide by the Madhya Pradesh Police from July 15 to July 30, intensive awareness programs are being organized in schools, colleges, coaching centers, rural areas, and urban settlements across the state. The main objective of this campaign is to educate youth and the general public about the ill effects of drugs and to build a drug-free Madhya Pradesh through active societal participation.

The world record established by Indore is not merely a numerical achievement; it is a tangible testament to how public awareness can transform into a powerful social movement when the police and society unite to eradicate a social evil. Indore's event has set an inspiring example of public participation and collective resolve towards a drug-free India and a drug-free Madhya Pradesh.
