Dilapidated Buildings Pose Growing Threat in Makronia; Municipality Issues Alert

Municipality Appeals for Vigilance Amidst Monsoon Concerns

Makronia | July 20, 2026 - With the onset of the monsoon season, the Makronia Municipality has issued a critical appeal to prioritize citizen safety. The Municipal Council has urged residents, property owners, and business operators to exercise extreme caution concerning dilapidated and damaged buildings to prevent any untoward incidents.

The Municipal Council emphasized that old and weak buildings' walls, roofs, and other structural components become more vulnerable during the rainy season, increasing the risk of collapse. Such structures pose a significant danger of serious accidents. Therefore, taking necessary remedial measures in a timely manner is crucial, considering these potential risks.

Urgent Repairs or Evacuation Advised for Property Owners

The Council has appealed to all property owners to personally inspect their buildings. If any building requires repairs, corrective work should be undertaken immediately. If a building is in an extremely dilapidated state and is unfit for habitation or use, it should be evacuated without delay to ensure the safety of the families and individuals residing there.

Furthermore, the municipality has requested the general public to remain vigilant. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary loitering around dilapidated buildings and to keep children away from such hazardous areas. Residents are urged to immediately report any building found in a dangerous condition to the local municipal office so that prompt action can be taken.

Survey Underway to Ensure Public Safety

The Makronia Municipal Council has assured that public safety is its utmost priority and a detailed survey of dilapidated buildings within the town is currently in progress. Based on the findings of this survey, necessary actions will be taken against high-risk buildings as per regulations.

The municipal administration believes that potential accidents during the monsoon season can be effectively prevented through citizen awareness and administrative cooperation. The Council reiterated its appeal to all residents to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
