Tragedy Strikes Malviya Nagar

A massive blaze broke out at a restaurant in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning, claiming at least 21 lives. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received an emergency call at 09:45 local time and immediately dispatched multiple fire tenders to the location.

Among the deceased, many are reported to be foreign nationals, according to news agency PTI. Emergency response teams successfully rescued 37 people from the building, who were immediately transported to hospitals via Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulances.

Emergency Mobilization and Rescue Efforts

The rescue operation saw a swift response from multiple agencies. Earlier, authorities confirmed that three individuals were rescued from the basement and shifted to a medical facility.

Jitendra Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) official, stated that emergency cells were mobilized immediately.

"As soon as I received information about the incident this morning, we activated our DDMA cell. All EOCs were informed and instructed to reach the spot immediately. I was supposed to leave for a training program myself, but I postponed it and came here instead," Kumar said.

Compensation and Official Condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences over the tragedy and announced immediate financial relief. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) declared that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased person.

Additionally, the injured individuals will receive Rs 50,000 to support their recovery.

"The loss of lives due to a fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi is tragic. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected," the Prime Minister's Office shared.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also expressed profound grief over the incident, noting that teams from the Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, DDMA, and CATS Ambulance Services worked together. She assured that the Delhi government stands firmly with the affected families during this tragic time.
