Zubeen Garg Case: Festival Organiser and Manager Arrested, Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody

Guwahati: Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and late singer-actor Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma were arrested in Delhi and brought to Guwahati on Tuesday. Both were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, who sent them to 14-day judicial custody under the supervision of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

According to police sources, Mahanta had been hiding in Singapore, while lookout notices had already been issued against both him and Sharma, directing them to appear at the CID office in Guwahati by October 6. Mahanta was arrested upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport from Singapore, while Sharma was apprehended from an apartment in Gurgaon.

The SIT has already interrogated key associates of Zubeen Garg, including drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, his brother and police officer Sandipon Garg, actress Nishita Goswami, Amritprabha, and the owner of a local TV channel, Sanjive Narain. All were in Singapore at the time of Garg’s death.

Assam DGP Harmeet Singh said the investigation, led jointly by the CID and SIT, is progressing transparently under directives from the Chief Minister. He added that one SIT/CID team is already in Delhi, while another will head to Singapore. The Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) process is underway to secure relevant evidence.

“I appeal to the people of Assam to have faith in the police. Within seven days, the probe will reach a logical conclusion. We must allow the legal process to take its course and extend full support,” Singh said.

Zubeen Garg, a legendary figure in Assamese music and cinema, tragically died on September 19 in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. His mortal remains were flown to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati on Sunday morning via a commercial flight.
