After the lukewarm response to War 2, the Yash Raj Films (YRF) Spy Universe appears at a critical juncture, with hopes now pinned on the upcoming film Alpha to reignite audience excitement. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the action thriller is set for a December 25, 2025 release.
Industry insiders reveal that YRF head Aditya Chopra is exploring a high-profile strategy to bolster the franchise: bringing Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan into the film, alongside Hrithik Roshan’s Agent Kabir, who is already confirmed for a cameo.
The Stakes for the Spy Universe
Unlike traditional sequels, YRF’s Spy Universe films are linked more through character cameos than continuous storylines. With audience anticipation dampened after War 2, Chopra is taking no chances. “Pathaan is currently the most talked-about character in the universe,” a source told Bollywood Hungama. “Adi has reached out to Shah Rukh Khan for a special cameo in Alpha, potentially paving the way for Pathaan 2.”
Scheduling Challenges for Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan is currently occupied with his upcoming project King, which has him booked throughout November 2025. Sources indicate that Chopra has personally requested Khan to adjust his schedule for Alpha.
“SRK is evaluating options. If a full cameo isn’t feasible, he may appear in a post-credit scene, which could still make a significant impact,” the source added.
Even a brief appearance of Pathaan could boost the film’s visibility and fan engagement, given the character’s popularity in the Spy Universe.
Looking Ahead: Alpha’s Potential Impact
Alpha is seen as a litmus test for the franchise’s future. While the film introduces fresh characters and storylines, strategic appearances by established heroes like Khan and Roshan may determine whether YRF’s action universe regains its momentum or faces further stagnation.
With just two months to release, every cameo and narrative choice is being carefully considered to maximize audience anticipation for the year-end blockbuster.
