Man Critically Injured in Vicious Attack Over Alcohol Payment Dispute
Damoh, Madhya Pradesh - A life-threatening attack using a sharp weapon occurred in the village of Bansa Tarkheda, within the Hirdeypur Chowki area of Damoh district, on the night of August 19th. The incident, which has instilled fear among the villagers, involved an assault on a young man, Anand Soni, a daily wage laborer, after he refused to pay for alcohol.
The altercation began around 8:30 PM when Saurabh Pathak, also a resident of Bansa Tarkheda, demanded money for alcohol from Anand Soni as he returned from work and was heading to the vegetable market. When Soni refused, Pathak allegedly resorted to verbal abuse and physical assault.
Attack Escalates, Leaving Victim Severely Wounded
According to the complaint filed, the dispute intensified when Saurabh Pathak retrieved a sharp weapon from his shop and attacked Anand Soni. In an attempt to defend himself, Soni raised his hands, resulting in a deep wound to his arm and significant bleeding.
Witnesses, Vipin Vishwakarma and Delan Singh, who were present at the scene, intervened and rushed the injured Anand Soni to the Damoh District Hospital on their motorcycle. He is currently receiving treatment.
Threats Issued, Case Registered Under New Law
The complaint also details that during the assault, Saurabh Pathak allegedly threatened to kill Anand Soni if he reported the incident to the police. This threat has further amplified the fear among the victim and the local community.
The police have registered a case under various sections of The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include sections related to assault, criminal intimidation, and use of criminal force. Head Constable Ramkumar Gaur has been assigned to investigate the matter. The police are actively searching for the accused, Saurabh Pathak.
Villagers Demand Action Against Illegal Activities
Expressing concern over the incident, villagers have called for effective action against alcohol, gambling, and other illegal activities in the area. They believe such measures are crucial to curb such incidents and maintain peace and order.
