Xiaomi Unveils Hunter Alpha as MiMo-V2-Pro

Last week, a powerful AI model named Hunter Alpha mysteriously appeared on the OpenRouter platform. Speculation arose that DeepSeek was behind this stealth launch.

On Wednesday, Xiaomi announced that Hunter Alpha was an early internal test build of its flagship model, MiMo-V2-Pro. This model is designed to be the 'brain' of AI agents.

MiMo-V2-Pro comes at a time of rapid adoption of open-source agent frameworks like OpenClaw in China.

Luo Fuli, who leads Xiaomi's AI model team MiMo and is a former DeepSeek researcher, addressed the rapid shift to AI agents in an X post on Thursday.

Model Specifications and Capabilities

Hunter Alpha is a 1-trillion-parameter model with a context window of up to one million tokens.

This combination of reasoning capability and free access with a large context window stood out to many in the AI community.

Nabil Haouam, an AI agent systems engineer, noted that frontier models with that context window usually come at a significant cost.

Partnerships and Free Access

MiMo-V2-Pro will partner with five major agent frameworks, including OpenClaw.

Xiaomi will offer a week of free access to developers worldwide.

Following the announcement, Xiaomi's Hong Kong-listed shares surged as much as 5.8% on Thursday.

Speculation and Stealth Testing

The model's specifications resembled expectations for DeepSeek's next-generation V4 model, leading to speculation.

Umur Ozkul said connecting the model to DeepSeek was understandable given the timing and advertised capabilities.

Stealth model launches are common, with platforms like OpenRouter used for testing new systems. Zhipu AI previously confirmed its GLM-5 system after an anonymous model named Pony Alpha appeared on OpenRouter in February.
