Social media platform X has acknowledged a compliance lapse and carried out a large-scale content purge after the Indian government raised concerns over obscene and sexually explicit imagery allegedly generated by its AI chatbot Grok, according to official sources.

The platform has blocked more than 3,500 content items and permanently removed over 600 user accounts, sources confirmed, signalling a significant enforcement step under India’s online content regulations.

The move follows a recent directive in which the government gave X Corp time to submit an action taken report detailing how it addressed violations linked to Grok-generated material.
