A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Devgarh village in Narsinghgarh, Madhya Pradesh, where an elderly woman's last rites had to be performed under a tarpaulin due to incessant rain. Villagers have been demanding a permanent cremation ground and shed for years, but it remains unavailable due to Forest Department regulations and permission hurdles.

Unforeseen Circumstances Disrupt Funeral

The incident occurred on Tuesday when 75-year-old Chhamma Bai passed away. As the funeral proceedings began, unexpected heavy rains began, causing significant inconvenience to the villagers. The wet firewood delayed the cremation process by nearly two hours, during which attendees remained exposed to the downpour. In a desperate measure, villagers erected a temporary shelter using bamboo and tarpaulin to conduct the ceremony.

Forest Department's Permission Remains a Sticking Point

According to the villagers, Devgarh village falls within a forest area, which complicates obtaining permissions for public construction and development projects from the Forest Department. Elders in the village stated that such situations arise frequently during the monsoon season, causing immense distress. They have appealed to the government and administration for a resolution to this persistent problem.

Gram Panchayat's Demands and Villagers' Warning

Sarpanch Mahesh Sagwalia confirmed that the Gram Panchayat has submitted multiple applications to the state and district administration for the construction of a permanent cremation ground and shed. However, the work remains stalled due to the lack of Forest Department clearance. The Gram Panchayat has also demanded immediate arrangements for drinking water alongside the permanent cremation ground and shed. The villagers have issued a warning that if a swift solution is not found, they will be compelled to protest at the block and district headquarters.
