Hospital Vandalism and Highway Blockade Erupt Following Patient's Death

Guna | September 27, 2026 - A 26-year-old woman's death during treatment at Balaji Hospital in Guna city late Saturday night and early Sunday morning led to a significant uproar by her family. The enraged relatives vandalized the hospital's reception and ICU ward before blocking a main city overbridge, causing a two-hour traffic standstill.

Rajkumari Bai, a resident of village Bhadaur in the Aron police station area, was admitted to Balaji Hospital on September 18th due to a blood deficiency. After receiving four units of blood, she was discharged on September 21st. However, her condition worsened again on Saturday evening, and her family brought her back to the same hospital.

Allegations of Negligence in Treatment

The family has leveled serious accusations against the hospital, claiming that despite reaching the hospital, the on-duty staff and doctors failed to provide the patient with timely and necessary attention. They stated that given the patient's critical condition, neither immediate treatment was initiated nor was she referred to a larger medical center. The woman's death, they allege, was a direct result of the lack of timely medical assistance.

Destruction at Hospital and Traffic Disruption

When the doctors declared the woman dead on Sunday morning, the family's anger erupted. They stormed into the hospital's reception area and ICU ward, causing destruction. A ventilator machine was knocked over, and the computer and cooler at the reception were also damaged. The hospital staff reportedly fled the scene amidst the chaos.

Subsequently, the distraught family removed the deceased's body from the hospital and proceeded to the city's main overbridge. They parked motorcycles in the middle of the road, completely obstructing traffic. The blockade lasted for approximately two hours, resulting in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road and causing significant inconvenience to travelers.

Traffic Resumes After Administrative Assurances

Upon receiving information, the City Kotwali police station in-charge and the Tehsildar arrived at the scene. They engaged with the family, listening to their demands. The district administration provided a firm assurance of an impartial investigation into the entire matter and assured that legal action would be taken against the hospital management if found guilty.

Following the administration's assurances, the family agreed to lift the blockade. The police then sent the body for post-mortem examination to the district hospital. A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC (Merg), and a detailed investigation has been initiated.
