Family Accuses Hospital of Negligence and Over-medication After Patient's Death

Narsinghpur, August 13, 2026 – A woman named Hemlata Yadav, who was brought to the private Lilavati Hospital on National Highway-46 in Narsinghpur for treatment, has died. Her family has accused the hospital management of gross negligence and allegedly administering a high dose of medication.

The incident caused a commotion at the hospital, prompting a team from the health department to arrive and begin a thorough investigation into the hospital's facilities, doctor availability, and treatment records.

Patient's Condition Deteriorates After Treatment

Hemlata Yadav, a resident of Gram Sanwasi and employed in Bhopal, began experiencing severe abdominal pain after returning from a birthday event with her husband, Rahul Yadav. They immediately rushed her to Lilavati Hospital.

According to the family, doctors at the hospital examined Hemlata and stated her sugar levels were high. She was subsequently administered medication and injections. Her husband alleges that Hemlata was given a high dosage of medicine, which led to a rapid deterioration of her condition.

Referred to Bhopal, Dies En Route

The family claims that around 3:30 AM on Thursday, the hospital referred Hemlata to Bhopal. While en route to Bhopal, approximately 30 kilometers from Narsinghpur near Kuawar, the woman passed away.

Devastated, the family returned with the body and lodged serious accusations against the hospital management, demanding immediate action. They expressed concern not only over the alleged negligence in treatment but also accused the hospital management of delaying the provision of treatment files and documents.

Further Allegations and Community Concerns

Some local residents also claimed that certain hospital staff appeared to be under the influence of intoxication, although this allegation could not be independently verified. The family stated they chose the hospital based on its external facilities and arrangements but were left in deep shock by the death.

Locals and the family claim this is the second such complaint related to this hospital within the last five days. A previous complaint regarding the treatment of another married woman had reportedly reached the police station. These recurring complaints have intensified demands for a thorough investigation into the hospital's operations.

Health Department Launches Investigation

Upon receiving information about the death, a health department team led by Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Rajendra Ahirwar inspected Lilavati Hospital. The team examined various hospital facilities, including the ICU, Emergency, General Ward, Operation Theatre, X-ray, and laboratory.

Information regarding the doctors and other staff available at the hospital was also collected. During the inspection, two doctors listed on the hospital's roster were present, while documentation for one doctor is under departmental review. The health department team has taken into custody documents related to doctors working under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana for examination.

Questions Raised Over Ayushman Scheme Compliance

This incident has also raised questions about whether the hospital is adhering to all the necessary medical and other essential criteria for providing treatment under the Ayushman Yojana.

The post-mortem of the deceased, Hemlata Yadav, was conducted at Narsinghpur Civil Hospital. The exact cause of death will be determined based on the post-mortem report and the treatment records obtained from the hospital.

Further Action Pending Investigation Report

CMHO Dr. Rajendra Ahirwar stated that a detailed inspection of the hospital was conducted due to the seriousness of the complaint. Following the examination of all records and documents, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the एसडीएम and senior officials, based on which further action will be decided.

Currently, the allegations of negligence and high dosage made by the family of Hemlata Yadav are under investigation. It is too early to definitively state whether the cause of death was medical negligence or an overdose of a particular drug. The final and objective determination will be made based on the post-mortem report, the hospital's medical records, and the findings of the expert investigation.

This incident has heightened concerns among local citizens regarding the medical systems in private hospitals, doctor availability, and patient safety. All eyes are now on the investigation report to be submitted by the health department, which will form the basis for appropriate action against the hospital management.
