West Central Railway Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Grand Festivities

West Central Railway (WCR) today, August 15, 2026, celebrated its 80th Independence Day with immense joy and fanfare across its entire division. The main event, held at the Railway Stadium in Jabalpur, saw General Manager Shri Dilip Kumar Singh hoist the national flag, followed by the singing of the national song 'Vande Mataram' and the national anthem.

A parade by the Railway Protection Force, St. John Ambulance, and Scout Guides, accompanied by patriotic tunes from the Railway Protection Force Band, filled the atmosphere with nationalistic fervor. Dignitaries present included Smt. Richa Singh, President of the West Central Railway Women's Welfare Organization, other organization members, heads of various departments, the Divisional Railway Manager, Jabalpur, railway officials, RPF personnel, a large number of employees, and their families from railway schools.

General Manager's Independence Day Message: Achievements and Future Direction

In his address, General Manager Shri Dilip Kumar Singh extended heartfelt greetings to all railway employees, officers, and their families on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. He emphasized the day as a time to remember the struggles, sacrifices, and contributions of brave martyrs, freedom fighters, and great personalities who played a pivotal role in India's independence.

Shri Singh highlighted the historic contribution of Indian Railways to the nation's progress. He noted that West Central Railway has significantly contributed to this developmental journey through railway network expansion, new line construction, operation of modern trains, station redevelopment, and modernization of passenger amenities.

Railway's Excellent Performance: Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and Healthcare Recognition

The General Manager mentioned the inauguration of 75 railway stations under the Prime Minister's 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme', including 06 stations from West Central Railway, marking a significant step towards railway modernization. Furthermore, West Central Railway has been selected to receive the 'Comprehensive Health Care Shield', acknowledging its outstanding performance in healthcare at the 'Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar' ceremony-2026.

Key Achievements of 2026: Infrastructure and Passenger Facilities

During the year 2026, West Central Railway achieved several milestones. In freight transportation, 36.90 million tonnes of loading were recorded, reflecting the railway's contribution to economic growth. A new goods shed was commissioned at Karahia Bhadauli in the Katni-Bina rail section of the Jabalpur division, enhancing logistical capabilities.

In terms of infrastructure, 91 kilometers of new lines were laid, and doubling/tripling work was completed. Additionally, 22 ROBs (Railway Over Bridges) and 46 LHS (Level Crossing Gates) were installed, with the renovation of 92 bridges undertaken.

Enhancing passenger facilities remained a continuous priority. During this period, 06 pairs of new train services were introduced, 01 pair of trains was extended, and stoppage facilities were provided for 13 pairs of trains at 13 stations. A total of 64 pairs of special trains originating from West Central Railway completed 412 trips.

Facilities such as 06 lifts, 09 escalators, and 620 CCTV cameras were made available at various stations, aiming to improve the passenger experience.

Women's Welfare Organization's Contribution and Media Gratitude

The West Central Railway Women's Welfare Organization also played an inspiring role through its welfare activities. The organization's 'Jagriti' center provides care and better educational facilities for underprivileged children. The organization honored 15 outstanding women employees on Women's Day and 15 outstanding employees on May Day, efforts appreciated by the General Manager.

The General Manager expressed gratitude to representatives of the print and electronic media, Scouts and Guides, Civil Defence, St. John Ambulance, and recognized unions for their positive cooperation.

Independence Day Celebrations in Other Divisions

Flag hoisting ceremonies were also conducted in other parts of West Central Railway. At the WCR headquarters, Principal Chief Personnel Officer Shri S. D. Patidar hoisted the flag, with participation from railway officials and employees. Independence Day was celebrated in the Jabalpur, Bhopal, and Kota divisions, with flag hoisting ceremonies led by their respective Divisional Railway Managers.
