West Bengal Warehouse Blaze Kills 8; Several Workers Feared Trapped

A devastating fire broke out in two warehouses in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal early Monday morning, killing eight people and leaving several workers feared trapped.

According to police officials, the fire started around 3 AM. By the time emergency teams arrived, the flames had engulfed major parts of both structures.

Fire authorities deployed 12 fire tenders, which worked continuously for nearly seven hours before bringing the blaze under control around 10 AM. However, officials said smoke and pockets of fire continued to rise from certain sections well into the evening.

Several labourers remain missing, raising concerns that the death toll may rise.

A detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and to verify whether safety equipment and exits were in place inside the warehouses.
