Villagers Persist in Demand for Permanent Pathway; Satyagraha Enters Fifth Day
In Etawah, villagers continue their indefinite satyagraha for a permanent pathway, now on its fifth day, protesting severe waterlogging.

Ongoing Protest for Permanent Pathway Enters Fifth Day
In Gram Panchayat Shekhupur Jakholi, Block Badhpura, District Etawah, villagers are unwavering in their demand for a permanent pathway for access. Their indefinite satyagraha, under the banner "Give Us a Path or Give Us Death," continued for the fifth day on Monday.
The persistent waterlogging in the railway underpass has made daily life arduous for locals. This issue severely impedes their access to farms, schools, and essential daily activities, highlighting a critical situation impacting their livelihoods and children's education.
Escalating Hunger Strike Amidst Unwavering Resolve
Satyagraha convenor Deepak Raj stated that the villagers' anger and resolve remained firm even on the fifth day of the protest. Devsharan Barua, Pawan Barua, and Anuj Tiwari, who began their hunger strike on the fourth day, continued their fast on Monday.
They were joined by Girjesh Tiwari and Happy Pandit, who also commenced their hunger strike. The villagers have made it clear that their satyagraha will not end until a permanent and accessible pathway is provided.
Farmers Face Severe Difficulties Reaching Farmlands
Girjesh Tiwari, participating in the hunger strike, shared his plight: "My fields are across the railway line. Reaching them is extremely difficult due to the constant water accumulation in the railway underpass."
He emphasized the importance of regular farm monitoring during the current crop season, but the blocked path prevents farmers from accessing their fertile land, risking crop damage. The situation also severely affects children's education, as they struggle to reach their school in Ikdil town.
Daily Commute and Financial Strain
“We have to take a detour of about five to six kilometers to take our children to school or bring them back,” Girjesh Tiwari added. This not only wastes valuable time but also incurs additional expenses, posing a significant financial burden.
Happy Pandit, another hunger striker, highlighted his own predicament: "My fields are only about a hundred meters from my house. Yet, due to the waterlogging and the complete disruption of access, I cannot regularly reach my fields."
The Stalemate and Demand for a Permanent Solution
Local residents noted that underpass waterlogging during the monsoon is a recurring problem. They allege that the pathway remains inaccessible for extended periods, negatively impacting crops and students' schooling.
The villagers are now seeking a permanent, long-term solution to prevent future hardships. They insist on a sustainable resolution that ensures smooth passage for farmers, students, and emergency services.
“Satyagraha Will Not Halt Until Path is Secured”
“Our protest banner clearly states 'Give Us a Path or Give Us Death.' In the current situation, our lives are akin to death without a pathway. Our satyagraha will only end when we are provided with the pathway we demand.”
Satyagraha convenor Deepak Raj reiterated the villagers' firm commitment, stating, "Our movement will continue indefinitely until we secure an accessible and permanent route." He clarified that the villagers are resolute and have collectively decided to persist until the problem is resolved.
New Protesters to Join Hunger Strike
To further invigorate the movement, Mahendra Singh, Harishankar, Dinesh Barua, Ashish Agnihotri, and Yogendra Kumar will join the hunger strike on Tuesday. The villagers are urgently appealing to the administration for swift intervention and a lasting solution to the underpass waterlogging.
They believe that resolving the pathway issue will not only facilitate farm access and enable children to attend school but also ease daily commutes and ensure the smooth passage of emergency vehicles.
As the satyagraha continues on its fifth day, all eyes are on the administration's next steps, with the villagers hoping for a positive and decisive response.
