Vijay Fans Trigger Travel Rush as Malaysia Gears Up for ‘Jana Nayagan’ Audio Launch

Airports in Chennai and Kuala Lumpur are witnessing unprecedented crowds as thousands of fans of actor Vijay travel to Malaysia for the grand audio launch of Jana Nayagan, believed to be his final film. The event is scheduled for December 27 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Videos circulating on social media show packed airport terminals and immigration queues, with flights to Kuala Lumpur reportedly filled almost entirely with Vijay fans. A senior operations manager at Chennai-based distributor Divo Movies described the surge as “completely unplanned,” noting that demand spiked sharply in the days leading up to the event.

Global fan turnout

Fans are flying in from across the world. Niramala, a Vijay fan from New Jersey, said she travelled through three international airports, all crowded with fellow fans. “My friends from across the globe are meeting in Kuala Lumpur for the Thalapathy festival. Usually fans travel to Chennai for such events—this time, everyone is heading to Malaysia,” she said.

Cinema club representative Sugumar Srinivasan said fans are travelling from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Europe, and beyond, with overall turnout expected to cross one lakh, though organisers estimate up to 90,000 attendees at the stadium. Tickets across multiple categories are nearly sold out.

Online travel portals indicate airfare hikes of up to 40% for Chennai–Kuala Lumpur routes between December 26 and 28, while local media report heavy congestion at major airports handling fan traffic.

‘Thalapathy Thiruvizha’ under strict watch

The event, titled “Thalapathy Thiruvizha,” will feature a tribute concert celebrating Vijay’s three-decade career, followed by the audio launch of Jana Nayagan. The film is directed by H Vinoth, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Reports suggest appearances by top stars including Dhanush and Simbu, though organisers are keeping guest details under wraps.

Given the scale of the gathering—and following a recent deadly stampede at a TVK rally in Tamil Nadu—Malaysian authorities have imposed strict regulations. The Royal Malaysia Police have banned all political speeches, slogans, banners, symbols, and merchandise linked to Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Items displaying red-and-yellow colours associated with the party are also prohibited.

Safety measures and restrictions

Additional restrictions include:

• No entry for children under five

• No re-entry once spectators exit

• Ban on outside food, beverages, and alcohol

• Prohibition of professional cameras, drones, flags, weapons, and laser pointers

Security has been significantly heightened, with officials warning of strict action against violators. Event organiser Datuk Abdul Malik Dashtigeer reiterated that the programme will remain “purely an entertainment event,” focused solely on Vijay’s cinematic legacy.

Tourism boost, final film buzz

The massive influx of fans is expected to boost Malaysia’s tourism sector, benefiting hotels, transport services, restaurants, and attractions such as Batu Caves and Genting Highlands, aligning with the country’s Visit Malaysia Year 2026 push.

Jana Nayagan, which also stars Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, is slated for release on January 9, 2026, ahead of Pongal—marking what Vijay has hinted could be his last film before entering full-time politics.
