Veteran BJP Leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra Passes Away at 94

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and the party’s first Delhi unit president, Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 94. He had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS for the past few days.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, in a statement, expressed deep sorrow, calling Malhotra’s life “an example of simplicity and dedication to public service.” He noted that Malhotra worked tirelessly since the days of the Jan Sangh to expand the ideology of the Sangh in Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid rich tributes. Shah recalled Malhotra’s pivotal role in shaping the Jan Sangh, Janata Party, and BJP, while Singh lauded him as a seasoned parliamentarian, widely respected for his knowledge of the Indian Constitution.

Incidentally, Malhotra’s demise comes just a day after Delhi BJP received its permanent office at DDU Marg, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.

Malhotra, a five-time MP and two-time MLA from Delhi, was one of the party’s tallest leaders in the capital and served as Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

The BJP said his mortal remains would be brought to his official residence at 21 Gurdwara Rakabganj Road at 8.45 a.m. for party workers, leaders, and well-wishers to pay their last respects.
