Vaccination Campaign Against Foot-and-Mouth Disease Begins in Farrukhabad

Farrukhabad, July 22, 2026 – A comprehensive vaccination campaign to protect livestock from Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) was launched in the Farrukhabad district on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Under the National Animal Disease Control Programme, the initiative aims to administer free vaccines to approximately 3.97 lakh animals across the district's 580 gram panchayats.

The campaign was inaugurated by Shri Fatehchand Verma, District President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Sharma, Chief Veterinary Officer of Farrukhabad, who flagged off the 1962 Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU). During the event, Shri Fatehchand Verma emphasized the importance of vaccination drives in safeguarding animals from diseases and directed veterinary officers and staff to conduct the campaign with utmost dedication.

Details of the Special Vaccination Campaign

Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Sharma, the Chief Veterinary Officer, outlined that this special vaccination campaign for FMD control will run from July 22, 2026, to September 8, 2026. During this period, dedicated teams will visit the homes of livestock owners in all 580 gram panchayats within the district to provide free vaccination to their animals.

The campaign's objective is to vaccinate a total of 3,97,500 animals in the district. Special teams from the veterinary department will reach villages, conduct health check-ups for the animals, and administer the vaccines.

Mandatory Tagging of Animals

As per government directives, the tagging of animals has been made mandatory alongside vaccination. According to Dr. Dhiraj Kumar Sharma, tagging will facilitate easy identification of animals, assist in maintaining their health records, and streamline the effective implementation of various future schemes.

He appealed to livestock owners to ensure all eligible animals receive the mandatory vaccination and to provide full cooperation to the departmental teams. Timely vaccination will prevent serious illnesses and alleviate economic losses for livestock farmers.

Several officials and staff from the veterinary department, including nodal officer Dr. B.P. Singh and Dr. Dhanesh Kumar Gupta, were present during the launch ceremony. This campaign, conducted under the National Animal Disease Control Programme, is considered a significant step towards conserving animal health and strengthening the livestock sector.

The department will regularly monitor the campaign's progress to ensure the set target is achieved within the stipulated timeframe.
