The US State Department on Saturday issued a warning that Hamas may be planning an imminent attack against civilians in Gaza, stating that such action would violate the ongoing ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, the department said the planned assault “would undermine the significant progress achieved through mediation efforts,” though it did not provide details on the “credible reports” it cited.
The State Department confirmed it had alerted other countries involved in the Gaza peace framework about the potential attack. “Should Hamas proceed with this attack, measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire,” the release added.
Both the State Department and the White House have so far declined further comment on the warning.
The caution comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the region following a US-mediated ceasefire, which saw Hamas release hostages and Israel free Palestinian prisoners in October 2025.
