Union Minister Launches NIELIT Digital University to Expand Digital Education

The Union Minister of Information and Electronics Technology inaugurated the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform in New Delhi, aiming to make digital education accessible across India, including remote regions.

As part of the launch, five new NIELIT centres were inaugurated virtually in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Daman (Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu), and Lunglei (Mizoram). These centres will offer courses in Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, and semiconductors, along with multilingual modules, virtual labs, and digital certifications to equip learners with industry-relevant skills.

Speaking at the event, Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of aligning education with industry needs:

“We must prepare a list of 500 industry partners — and they don’t necessarily have to be only from electronics or IT. Wherever electronics and IT are in use, our goal must be to train and prepare students to meet those specific demands.”

He also highlighted the growth of the electronics manufacturing sector, now valued at ₹13 lakh crore, and expressed confidence that NIELIT would achieve further milestones.

The event included a panel discussion on the role of AI in digital education, featuring representatives from Intel, Infosys, Microsoft, Barco Electronics, and academic institutions.

Through the NDU platform, NIELIT aims to provide high-quality digital education and encourage students to pursue careers in the rapidly expanding digital economy.
