UK: Major Incident Declared After Mass Stabbing on London-Bound Train Near Cambridge; Two Arrested

At least 10 people were hospitalised, including nine with life-threatening injuries, after a mass stabbing aboard a London-bound train near Cambridge on Saturday evening.

The attack occurred as the Doncaster-to-London King’s Cross train approached Huntingdon station, prompting police to declare a major incident. The British Transport Police (BTP) are leading the investigation, with counterterrorism officers assisting.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the attack. Authorities briefly activated the national “Plato” alert, used for potential marauding terror incidents, before later standing it down.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the assault as “appalling”, while Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed both suspects were in custody and urged the public to avoid speculation.

Emergency services, including armed police, ambulances, and three air ambulances, responded swiftly. Witnesses reported scenes of panic, with one saying, “They’ve got a knife, I’ve been stabbed.”

Train and road traffic around Huntingdon were disrupted as investigators examined the scene. Police said it was too early to determine the motive, and inquiries remain ongoing.
