UK Unveils £20 Million Humanitarian Package for Gaza

Britain will provide an additional £20 million ($27 million) in aid to deliver essential water, sanitation, and hygiene services in Gaza, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Sunday upon arriving in Egypt for a world leaders’ summit aimed at ending the long-running conflict.

According to the British government, the aid will be channelled through UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) to reach civilians suffering from famine, malnutrition, and disease.

Ceasefire and Global Reconstruction Efforts

A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has now held for three consecutive days, marking the first phase of a wider peace agreement intended to end the two-year-long war.

Starmer also announced that Britain will host a three-day international summit focused on the reconstruction of Gaza. The summit will bring together government leaders, private sector participants, and development finance institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the World Bank.

The UK government said it has already contributed £74 million in humanitarian support to Palestine during the current financial year.
