Two young men were found dead under unexplained circumstances late Monday night in Chhatarpur district, prompting a detailed police investigation amid signs of possible violence.
According to the police, the bodies were discovered around 9 pm along a roadside stretch between Panautha and Janakpur villages in the Ishanagar area. The victims were later identified as Surendra Yadav (19) and Santosh Kori (18), both residents of Gaharwar village.
What Police Found at the Scene
Officials said the two bodies were lying roughly 20 paces apart, suggesting the deaths may not have occurred at exactly the same spot. Both youths had visible injuries to the skull, indicating severe trauma.
During the initial search of the area, police recovered a country-made firearm, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle lying close to the bodies. Based on the preliminary assessment, investigators believe one of the victims may have sustained a gunshot injury, while the other appears to have died after being struck on the head with a heavy object.
Forensic Examination Underway
A forensic team was immediately dispatched to examine the site and collect evidence. The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examinations, which are expected to clarify the precise cause and timing of death, as well as whether firearms were used.
Superintendent of Police Agam Jain confirmed that multiple possibilities are being examined. “The forensic process is ongoing. We are analysing all available evidence and exploring every angle. Further action will depend on the post-mortem and forensic reports,” he said in a statement.
Why the Case Is Significant
The deaths have caused concern among residents of nearby villages, particularly due to the apparent involvement of a firearm and the young age of the victims. Police are investigating whether the incident was the result of a personal dispute, criminal activity, or another cause, and are also working to establish how the weapon reached the scene.
Next Steps in the Investigation
Authorities said they are questioning locals, reviewing call records from the recovered phone, and tracing the ownership of the motorcycle and firearm. Police have not ruled out foul play and said clarity is expected once forensic and autopsy findings are received.
