Tripura DGP Found Dead in Office

Agartala, July 20, 2026: The body of Tripura's Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag DhanKhar, was discovered in his office at the Police Headquarters here on Monday, sending shockwaves across the state. Preliminary information suggests he allegedly died by suicide.

The discovery caused immediate pandemonium at the Police Headquarters. Officials rushed to GBP Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Following this tragic event, Chief Minister Manik Saha, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, and other senior officials from the state government and police department arrived at the hospital.

Investigation Underway

The police have promptly initiated an investigation into the matter, although the reasons behind the suspected suicide have not yet been officially disclosed. The incident marks a somber turn of events for the state's police force.

DGP DhanKhar's Illustrious Career

Anurag DhanKhar, an IPS officer of the 1994 batch from the Tripura cadre, had assumed the role of Tripura's DGP in May 2025. With over three decades of experience, he had served in numerous significant positions within the Tripura Police, including DGP (Intelligence).

His policing expertise extended beyond the state, having also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Border Security Force (BSF). Furthermore, he contributed to the United Nations mission in Kosovo, gaining valuable international policing experience that distinguished him in his leadership of the Tripura Police.
