Thalapathy Vijay’s final film ‘Jana Nayagan’ sets record with ₹78 crore overseas deal

Anticipation for Thalapathy Vijay’s swan song Jana Nayagan is reaching fever pitch, as the film’s overseas distribution rights have been sold for a record ₹78 crore, the highest-ever for a Vijay starrer.

Directed by H. Vinoth, the film is set for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, marking Vijay’s final cinematic outing before his much-awaited entry into politics.

According to industry tracker South Star, the North American rights alone have fetched ₹25 crore, followed by Malaysia (₹12 crore), Singapore and Sri Lanka (₹6.5 crore), and the remaining revenue coming from Europe and other markets.

The film’s first single, “Thalapathy Kacheri,” released recently, has already taken social media by storm, amassing over 10 million views within hours of launch. Fans flooded platforms like Instagram and X with reels, praising the track’s energy and Vijay’s commanding screen presence.

Jana Nayagan features Pooja Hegde as the leading lady and Bobby Deol as the antagonist, with Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani playing key roles.

For Vijay, this project comes at a crucial career juncture. His recent films have delivered mixed results — while Leo: Bloody Sweet (2023) directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj grossed over ₹341 crore in India and became his biggest overseas success, The Greatest of All Time struggled with ₹252 crore despite high expectations.

The film’s box-office journey will be closely watched as it goes head-to-head with Prabhas’ horror-comedy The Raja Saab, also releasing the same week. The face-off between the mass leader Thalapathy and the pan-India superstar Prabhas promises to make the January 2026 box-office clash one of the biggest in recent memory.

As Vijay prepares to shift focus to his political ambitions, Jana Nayagan is poised to serve as a grand farewell to an illustrious film career spanning over three decades — blending mass appeal, emotion, and legacy.
